New Hope for Street Children and Mitigation of this Phenomenon in Yaoundé (Cameroon)
In the bustling capital of Yaoundé, numerous street children struggle for survival every day. Many of them are orphans who have lost their parents to the devastating effects of AIDS. Without family support, they end up on the streets, where they face unimaginable dangers such as exploitation, violence, abuse, and malnutrition.
The safety and harmonious development of a child are inseparable from ensuring their fundamental rights. In a world where many children, due to various challenges, lack access to basic social services such as health, education, nutrition, and safety, an urgent issue has arisen—the care of vulnerable children. This is where NHAL Cameroon comes in, to give these children hope and enable them to have a better future.
Our Approach: Collaboration for the Well-being of Children
We collaborate closely with child protection officers recommended by the government, as well as qualified professionals, including teachers, homemakers, a psychologist, a security guard, and a doctor, employed by NHAL Cameroon. Together, we strive to provide a safe environment for street children aged 7 to 12. In our facilities, these children not only receive a warm meal, clothing, and shoes but also loving care and support.
Our Vision: Education, Hope, and Change
Our focus is on promoting the education of these children. We start with literacy courses offered in a playful manner. These courses help us create a database of the children’s main issues and plan possible solutions through media campaigns. We believe that education is the key to change and that these children have the opportunity to break free from their precarious situation through education.
Our Next Steps: Stronger Together
We understand that we cannot solve all problems at once, but we firmly believe that with small steps, we can make a significant change. In the future, we plan small training seminars to strengthen the skills of our tutors and volunteers. This initiative will enable us to better address the needs of the children and design our next project more effectively.
